The Epilepsy surgeries project is a signature medical project carried out by the Rotary Club of Pune Baner. This ongoing medical project is being carried out by the club along with Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre, Pune. Dr. Nilesh Kurwale, a neurosurgeon specialized in epilepsy surgeries carries out these specialized micro surgeries on patients of all age groups including infants and children. each surgery costs about Rs. 4.5 lakhs. RCPB donates part of this cost for each surgery. Corporate partners and Deenanath Hospitals also sponsor these operations partly, making it a totally free surgical treatment for the poor and needy patients of surgery, who come from all parts of Maharashtra and also from other parts of India. These surgeries bring about a life changing experience to the patients of epilepsy thus curing them forever. There is no medication and need for further treatment after these surgeries. Epilepsy is a debilitating condition and these surgeries act like a reincarnation to the patients of epilepsy. The club has conducted five such surgeries so far and wishes to reach at least 50 patients in the coming years. The overall project evaluation is more than Rs. 2 crore.
